    OFFICIAL GAME RULES

CIF HIGH SCHOOL RULES WILL APPLY WITH FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:

    1. Game: Two 20 minute halves. Halftime will be 5 minutes -- unless the game officials need to expedite the game to stay on schedule

    2. There will be a running clock with the following exceptions — the clock will STOP during ALL free throws, timeouts, and during the last 2 minutes of the second half of the game. If one team is ahead in score by 20 or more points the clock will not stop during the last 2 minutes.

    3. Overtime will be 3 minutes. The clock will stop during free throws and during the last minute of overtime. Double overtime will be 2 minutes. Triple overtime will be 1 minute.

    4. Timeouts: There will be 4 per game – two full timeouts and two 30 second time outs – only 2 may be used in the first half – first half timeouts can be carried over into second half. One timeout will be added in overtime. Each timeout is 1 minute, but may be less if the game officials must expedite a game to stay on schedule. Also, halftime may be less than 5 minutes if the officials must expedite a game to stay on schedule.

    5. Player Substitution: Free player substitution is allowed, and no minimum playing time is required — with this stipulation — We expect that every full time player on the roster will play in every game.

    6. A minimum of 5 roster players must be present in order to start a game.

    7. When a team is ahead in score by 20 points, no full court press is allowed. If a team is ahead by 30 or more points, no fast-breaking is permitted.

    8. Head coaches may stand during games and are restricted to the coaching box area as set by the officials on the court. Assistant coaches must sit during play. All coaches may stand during breaks in play such as timeouts and halftime A maximum of three coaches are allowed to be seated with the team.

    9. All coaches must be listed on the team roster and have a coach application filed with the league. In the event of a head coach being absent from a game, the assistant coach must notify the scorekeeper and officials prior to the start of the game.

    10. All ejections require the player, coach or fan to leave the facility. They do not have to leave the grounds of the facility, but must not be within the gym area. The game will not commence until the offending person has left the area. In the event they do not leave the area, the clock will be run without play and law enforcement may be called to remove the person.

    11. ALL ejections – coaches, players and fans – will result in a one game suspension. All ejections are eligible for review and appeal by the MSBL Board. ANY coach, player or fan who engages in physical violence will be banned from participating for the remainder of the league season.
